For all races and cultures
PURPOSE
On June 8, 1978, the declaration given by then President Spencer W. Kimball, once again extended the priesthood to all worthy males. It was a joyous occasion celebrated world-wide. As the ordinations swept across the globe, many questions began to arise as to what to teach in light of this new direction. Then in 1981, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints published an updated edition of the scriptures with new footnoting to give the sincere seeker clarity as they prayerfully studied the word of God. Having oil in their lamps, they would be sufficiently prepared to help neighbors and edify one another. The purpose of the AAOP is to make this wealth of scriptural light available to all within the Church and to those neighbors and sincere investigators who have questions relative to these issues.
BENEFITS
The AAOP has helped improve the manner in which members teach and neighbors view the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in regards to race and equality. Members come away with such a greater desire to study the scriptures and a greater reliance upon prayer and the Holy Ghost. Investigators have a greater appreciation for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as a greater understanding of Church’s doctrine relative to race and equality.
METHOD
One hour classes are held for four consecutive weeks studying the scriptures with regards to Blacks in the Bible, skin color & curses, equality & priesthood and Blacks and the LDS priesthood. LDS members attend and are encouraged to bring family and neighbors so that all might learn and be edified together. This format of outreach has been successfully applied in many areas of the US and abroad and aids greatly in maximizing the potential for success and unity. With that said, the greatest guiding principles are to live obedient to the commandments and to the covenants entered into, study the scriptures daily, seek after the guidance of the Spirit of the Lord in all that we do for His sake, and follow the promptings given to us individually.
INVITATION
Our work is to invite all members with their neighbors, to study the words of the Lord shared through the program and then pray to receive a perfect knowledge of what is true through the Holy Ghost.
CLASSES THROUGHOUT THE U.S.
